What Is Classical Pilates?.

  • Classical Pilates..

In Its Original Form Is An Advanced Mat-Based Workout Called ‘The Classical Mat'.

  • The Classical Mat..

Comprises 34 Exercises Which Move & Work The Mind & Body Right From The Inside Out.

  • This Pilates Method..

Was Created By Movement Genius Joseph Pilates (9 December 1883 – 9 October 1967)..

  • Joe As He Became Known..

Developed A 'System Of Pilates' Which Used Specific Pilates Apparatus Including The Reformer, Wunda Chair & Cadillac.

  • These Apparatus..

Can Be Used To Assist The Matwork, By Supporting & Challenging The Body To Move Through Its Available Range Of Movement, Working Against The Resistance Of Springs..

  • The Classical Pilates Method..

Is Different From Any Other Form Of Exercise Because The Focus Is Always Spinal Length..

  • Here We Learn..

How To Access The Deeper Lying Muscles Which Form The Powerhouse (Energy Centre), & Use This 'Stronghold' To Press Away From The Downward Push Of Gravity (Opposition)..

  • This Makes Classical Pilates ..

Safe & Effective For EVERYBODY, Being Inclusive Of All Ages, Sizes, Abilities, & Genders, Including Those Rehabilitating From Injury, Or Convalescing From Illness.

The foundational elements I cover in all my training are based upon the Classical Pilates Principles of:

  • Concentration:

Connecting the mind with the body.

  • The Breath:

Training the breath to power the movement.

  • Centring:

Aligning the frame of the body: pelvis, spine & shoulder girdle.

  • Control:

Activating the Powerhouse (energy centre) to support the frame.

  • Opposition:

Using the Powerhouse to resist the downward push of gravity to maintain spinal length.

  • Precision:

Listening within to adjust & fine tune the Powerhouse to maintain spinal length, & support the body through all planes of movement.

  • Flow:

Moving the mind and body as one fully integrated whole, building stamina, length & strength.

Katharine Jemmett:

“My focus is always to meet the individual mind & body exactly where they are at, & draw from the genius of the Classical Pilates Method, To Facilitate Moving Well & Feeling Good For Life..”
